The addition of secondary side aisles in Cologne Cathedral (otherwise closely following the plan of Amiens Cathedral) represents a sacrifice of the major consideration (in this case, balance between centralistic and longitudinal tendencies) to the minor one (in this case, conformity of nave and choir) not unlike that which can be observed in the treatment of the supports (cf., pp. 85 ff.).
